Advantages of Vacuum Casting

1. Fast turnaround

OYA has the capability to deliver a maximum of 20 parts within 15 days or less, subject to part specifications and volume requirements.

2. Affordability

Silicone molds offer a cost advantage compared to the tooling utilized in injection molding, leading to more competitive pricing.

3. Capable of producing large parts

Vacuum casting has the capacity to produce sizable parts, depending on the specific equipment employed in the process.

4. Superior surface finish to injection molding

The vacuum process effectively eliminates air bubbles and enables the material to capture intricate details with precision.

5. Color options

Resin can be infused with coloring pigments, offering a diverse range of color options for the finished products.

6. Repeatability

Silicone molds have a lifespan of approximately 20 uses before they require replacement.

What is
Vacuum Casting ?

Vacuum casting is a manufacturing method that uses a vacuum to draw liquid casting material into a mold. It is particularly effective for parts with intricate details or undercuts. The process involves creating a master model, immersing it in liquid silicone to form a mold, and pouring casting resin into the mold. The vacuum is used to eliminate air pockets and ensure a smooth finish. After curing and cooling, the resin part is removed from the mold. Vacuum casting offers precise replicas of the original master model, making it suitable for rapid prototyping and small-batch production.

Sheet Metal FAQ

Why would I choose vacuum casting over injection molding?

Vacuum casting is a more affordable alternative to IM, especially in low volumes. It also offers unique advantages like an excellent surface finish.

Can I make production-quality parts using vacuum casting?

Vacuum casting is best for making visually impressive prototypes, but it can also be used for non-mechanical end-use parts like cases and covers.

What happens to the silicone mold? Can I keep them?

The silicone molds used in vacuum casting have a short lifespan, typically around 20 moldings, so we dispose of them after use.
